Troubleshooting a MicroTurbine that Does Not Wake Up Overview This section outlines instructions for trouble- shooting a MicroTurbine that does not wake up, i.e., there is no display of fault codes or RS-232 communication to receive a fault code. NOTE: Perform ALL of the following troubleshooting instructions since there may be more than one problem causing a MicroTurbine not to wake up. Using a Digital Multi Meter (DMM), perform ALL of the following troubleshooting instructions. Record all your observations and measurements as you perform each step. Contact Capstone Technical Support for further assistance as required. NOTE: When calling Capstone for further assistance, have the results from ALL of the following tests available for consultation with a Technical Support Representative. Refer to MicroTurbine assemblies and the System Block Diagrams on the following pages as required. Grid Connect Mode Troubleshoot the Grid Connect mode as follows: A. Measure Grid Voltage 1. Set the Digital Multimeter (DMM) to measure AC voltage. 2. Measure each phase of the grid connection at the User Connection Bay junction box to the chassis ground (L1 to ground, L2 to ground, and L3 to ground). Each phase should typically measure 277 VAC (or between 208 and 305 VAC). 3. Measure each combination of line to line voltages (L1 to L2, L1 to L3, L2 to L3). Each should typically measure 480 VAC (or between 360 and 528 VAC). PowerBay (UCB) L1 N PE/G L2 L3 REMOVE ALL INPUT POWER TO SYSTEM FOR REMAINING STEPS. WARNING: Remove all input power to the system before performing the following steps. Failure to turn OFF power may cause personal injury or death, or damage to equipment. B. Check for Shorts in the System 1. Set the Digital Multimeter to measure ohms. 2. Check each phase to ground for shorts (L1 to ground, L2 to ground, and L3 to ground). Each should read in Mega ohms. 3. Measure phase to phase for shorts (L1 to L2, L1 to L3, L2 to L3). Each should read in Mega ohms. Observe Safety Precautions - Refer to Safety Instructions for Details 430013-001 Rev A (October 2002) 2 Model C60 Troubleshooting Guide This information is proprietary to Capstone Turbine Corporation.
