Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Glossary of Terms and Acronyms STAND ALONE - Operating with the MicroTurbine load not connected to the utility’s power distribution grid or operating when that grid is not active (using a battery pack to motor the system). SWEET GAS – Natural gas with less than 95 ppm of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) will be defined as sweet gas suitable for use in the Capstone MicroTurbine system. SYSTEM SEVERITY LEVEL – When a MicroTurbine detects an incident, it may take one of several actions depending on the incident severity level. Actions range from simply noting the occurrence and continuing to operate to immediate shutdown of the system. Depending upon the severity of the incident, the system may or may not attempt to restart, and may or may not allow a restart. System severity levels are graded from 0 (zero) to 7 (SSL 0 to SSL 7), with 0 being the least critical, and 7 being the most critical level. Tamb SENSOR – A sensor that measures the inlet temperature of the MicroTurbine. This data is supplied to the controller. TBD– To Be Determined. TC or T/C – Thermocouple. TCIN – Compressor Inlet Temperature. TCP/IP – Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. TECH REF – Technical Reference. TET – Turbine Exit Temperature. The temperature of the exhaust gas, as measured by the thermocouple, at the exit of the turbine rotor. THERMAL PRIORITY – Relates to ICHP. The diverter is commanded to move to Full Bypass mode and MicroTurbine shuts down. THERMISTOR – See RTD. THRUST BEARING – A compliant foil bearing deigned to have axial load capacity. The bearing is comprised of multiple levels of under-springs and an aerofoil. The under-springs are of two (2) types: support and springs. The MicroTurbine employs a dual bearing arrangement; forward thrust bearing and aft thrust bearing. Each thrust bearing has load capacity in one direction. TIT – Turbine Inlet Temperature. The temperature of the combustion gases at the entrance to the turbine nozzle. TLA – Top Level Assembly. The configuration that defines the modules and components that comprise a MicroTurbine Generator System. TURBINE ROTOR – Also known as a radial inflow turbine. The turbine rotor recovers energy from the combustion gases once the gas has flowed through the turbine nozzle. When the gases, with increased velocity, impinge on the blades, they impart a force that keeps the rotor in motion allowing it to drive the compressor impeller and generator. UCB – See User Connection Bay. 400002-001 Rev D (September 2004) Page 21 of 22 This information is proprietary to Capstone Turbine Corporation.
