Capstone Turbine Corporation UPS Controller User’s Manual Troubleshooting Troubleshooting the UPS Controller Most of the common faults associated with the controller may be related to power or communication connections between the controller and the Hybrid UPS MTs or the controller and the building management system. Troubleshooting a Controller That Will Not Wake Up 1. If the display screen is dark, tap it on any point to wake it up. Note that the display panel has a screen save feature, which will cause the screen to turn off after 30 minutes of inactivity. 2. If the display screen does not light up after tapping it, the entire controller may be asleep. a. Press the wakeup button located on the front panel to wake up the controller. If no activity is seen on the screen after pressing the wakeup button, there may be a power supply problem in the controller. Check the circuit breaker or disconnect providing power to the controller and make sure it is in the ON position. b. If all external power connections to the controller are good, open the controller front door and look for the 120-240 VAC to 24 VDC power supply. Make sure that the green LED labeled OK is lit. If this LED is not lit, using a voltmeter, check the AC input voltage for the power supply by placing the voltmeter leads on the L and N terminals at the bottom of the power supply. If the voltage is between 110 VAC and 240 VAC, then the power supply must be replaced. c. If the 24 VDC power supply is good, check the UPS power supply to the right of the 24 VDC power supply. Check that the Input Power OK LED is lit. If it is not lit, measure the input of the UPS power supply with the voltmeter. It should read about 24 VDC. If the input voltage reads 24 VDC, but the Input Power OK is not lit, the DC UPS needs to be replaced. If the Input Power OK LED is lit, press the white ON/OFF/TEST button on the power supply for 5 seconds and measure the Load voltage output. The load voltage output should read 24 VDC. Troubleshooting a Controller That Will Not Respond to Local and Remote Commands If a remote command is issued to the controller and the controller has not responded to the commanded state from the DCS within 15 seconds, this may be due to communication issues between the controller and DCS. On the Maintenance screen shown in Figure 6, check that the DCS Commanded Mode corresponds to the desired mode of operation. If it does not, check that the DCS is set for the desired method of operation. Also check that Communications are enabled. If the communications are disabled, press the enable button. Communications must be enabled all the time. The only instance where communications may be disabled is when the system is down for software maintenance. If the DCS Commanded Mode is UPS Normal or High Efficiency and the Mode Response and Current State do not follow the DCS commanded mode within 15 seconds, contact your Authorized Service Provider.
