Capstone Turbine Corporation UPS Controller User’s Manual Remote Operation The system integrator will provide a user interface for the customer building management system or other control system, using the above Local Operation and Automatic Operation sections as guidelines. The modes of operation and transition functions of the UPS Controller must be respected. However, there is additional information available from the Modbus registers that can be displayed as desired. The system integrator will provide operator instructions for this remote monitoring and control system. Normal System Operation The UPS Controller provides a simple interface for a higher level building management system or other control system to issue a few commands to put all Hybrid UPS microturbines into the desired operating state. The local display of the UPS Controller will always indicate the desired operating mode and present operating conditions, regardless of whether the commands were issued locally or remotely. The local display may not automatically turn on as a result of remote commands being issued. The operator can view operation status through the local touch screen display as described above, or at a user interface provided by the building management system. Fast Stop A Fast Stop function is available through a discrete input to the UPS Controller. When activated, the Fast Stop will immediately disconnect power to the load, and force any running turbine generators into a cooldown without regard to battery state of charge. The power connection to the utility will be disconnected as soon as the turbines have completed their cooldown, leaving the system in Standby Mode. Fast Stop is the recommended system stop function for quickly removing load power, as it is not as damaging to the turbines as the E-Stop function described below. The Fast Stop discrete input can be wired to a building management system for automatic operating in case of emergency, or can be wired to a manual “System Stop” button. Refer to specific instructions provided by the building management system integrator or system installer for the location of any System Stop button or instructions how to activate this function from the building management system. If a Fast Stop command is issued to the UPS Controller, the Hybrid UPS microturbines will enter their respective shutdown sequences and stop providing power to the critical load immediately. The screens shown in Figure 4 and Figure 6 will display a Fast Stop alarm indication. The external fault stop condition must be removed in order to restart the system.
