Capstone Turbine Corporation UPS Controller User’s Manual a. Standby – the UPS controller will be set to Standby and will set all connected Hybrid UPS systems to standby. No power output will be provided. b. Remote Operation – using Modus serial or TCP/IP communications and additional I/O connections on the UPS Controller, a building management system or other customer control equipment can remotely read data, change the controller modes, set power demand, and receive alarm outputs. 2. Remote Operation thru the HMI – Same as item 1, except performed from a PC connected to the same network as the controller or over the Internet. This option can be enabled or disabled and has password protection. Once the system is set to remote, the BMS will be able to change the operating mode between Normal and High Efficiency mode as well as setting a power demand. The UPS Controller Technical Reference (410081) provides information for a system integrator to develop this remote monitoring and control. Specific user instructions must be developed by others, depending on how this equipment is set up. Operation Authority Display of data from the Hybrid UPS microturbines through the UPS Controller does not require any password, either from the local touch screen interface or the digital communications ports. However, accessing the maintenance screen to perform administrative functions such as setting the controller to remote mode does require a password, and after this mode is set, no further passwords are required from the BMS to the controller. The system operator should keep a copy of this password to perform any of the advanced administrative features discussed in this document. Operation Priority The priority of actions taken by the UPS Controller fall into the following categories: 1. E-Stop and Fast Stop – these stop commands can be issued either using the hard wired discrete inputs or using the serial communications link with the appropriate Modbus register command. These stop functions take priority over any other manual or automatic commands. E-Stop has higher priority than Fast Stop, and will force the engines into a warmdown even if the Fast Stop has also been actuated. An E-Stop will also prevent the system from automatic restart. 2. Normal Shutdown – a command to shut the system down (either through the UPS Controller front display panel or using the digital communications link) will disconnect power to the load and make an orderly system transition to Standby Mode. 3. Hybrid UPS Enable/Disable – a command to take a Hybrid UPS microturbine into or out of a MultiPac will take priority over any command to operate in UPS Mode or High Efficiency Mode at a specific power demand, or even when operating in Page 18 of 35 400028 Rev B (January 2014) Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation either with respect to equipment previously sold or in the process of construction. WARNING Starting, stopping, or changing operating modes of the Hybrid UPS microturbines may unexpectedly energize circuits, resulting in hazardous voltage conditions that can cause death, injury, or equipment damage. Assure that only authorized personnel have access to the UPS Controller or access to any equipment with the ability to issue control commands through the UPS Controller.
