PRELIMINARY SYSTEM OPERATION & MAINTENANCE Introduction This manual presents information necessary for the owner/user to operate and maintain the Capstone 60 throughout its normal operational life. Information pertaining to proper installation, initial commissioning and establishing operational parameters of the Capstone 60 is found in the Installation and Start-Up manual. Basic troubleshooting is included in this manual but detailed troubleshooting and repair of the unit is intended to be performed only by a Capstone Authorized Service Provider. System Overview The Capstone 60 is a clean, compact source of electrical power and heat. Through patented design, the Capstone 60 generates electricity from natural gas fuel with low exhaust emissions (<9ppm N0x). The Capstone 60 makes the concept of distributed generation a reality. The Capstone 60, when in Grid Connect mode, is connected in parallel to the electricity grid and delivers electricity to grid connected loads. Electricity generated by the Capstone 60 is supplied to these loads only when the utility is present. During grid supply interruptions, the Capstone 60 senses the loss and immediately disconnects from the grid. When the utility returns, the system can restart automatically and resume supplying electricity to the connected loads. In Grid Connect mode, the Capstone 60 is a current source only, the existing grid is used for both voltage and frequency reference. WARNING: The fuel used by the Capstone 60 is flammable. No open flame is allowed near the unit. No smoking is allowed near the Capstone 60. WARNING: The exhaust gas can reach temperatures as high as 340 oC (650 oF). Keep flammable materials well clear of the Capstone 60 exhaust pipe and exhaust stream. WARNING: The Capstone 60 contains lethal energy. Do not open the enclosures except as directed in this manual.
