Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Application Guide: Offshore/Coastal Systems – Hazardous and Non-hazardous Installations System Permissives During service, bypasssing the pressure switch and purge time permissives is recommended. Please note that the area around the MicroTurbine must be free of explosive gases before servicing the unit. Temporarily reconfigure the Start priority to User and disable both fault inputs. This bypasses the control system permissives, except the Alarm2 level and fault for the gas detector. This option also inhibits the PLC from controlling the Microturbine. At all times, the MicroTurbine Battery Start button on the display panel will be available to wake up the system. As stated earlier, this button should only be used during maintenance and when the area around the MicroTurbine is known to be free of combustible gases. In the case that the system needs to be tested with the control system operational, the following steps should be taken to bypass the pressurization switch. If the gas detector option is installed, refer to the “Gas Detector” section for additional details. Bypassing Pressure Switch When troubleshooting the system, if the pressure switch is suspected to be the cause of the problem, then the terminals on the switch may be jumpered. Before jumpering the pressure switch, make sure that all power is disconnected from the PLC and relays associated with the external control circuitry of the MicroTurbine. Before loosening the four bolts on the pressure switch housing, locate the bolt that has a retainer. This bolt cannot be removed, and it is meant to keep the pressure switch cover captive. Completely remove the other three bolts and loosen the fourth enough to rotate the cover open. Also, ensure that the MicroTurbine is configured as described in the “MicroTurbine Configuration” section. Before touching the terminals, measure voltage between each point (Normally Closed “NC”, Common, Normally Open “NO”) and ground to make sure there is no voltage present (See Figure 9). Place a jumper between terminals NO and C. Energize the control system. After three minutes, the control system will wake up the Microturbine and will give all permissives to start.
