Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA User’s Manual: Advanced Power Server (APS) Model 145 User's Manual To enable a single turbine to switch between Grid Connect and Stand Alone modes, the DMSC is hard-wired directly to the one Dual Mode turbine. In a MultiPac, more than one turbine can be used for Dual Mode operation, but the DMSC is not wired directly to each of these turbines. Instead, the DMSC is wired directly to only the master turbine, which is the APS in an APS- controlled MultiPac. The DMSC transmits the switching commands over the hard-wire connection to the APS, and the APS forwards the commands from the DMSC to the turbines in the MultiPac through the standard MultiPac Ethernet connection. 3.6. Start Up The sequence required to start up a MultiPac using the APS is described in the following paragraphs. 3.6.1. Initialization Once the power supply on the APS is connected to an external Vac source, 24 Vdc power is distributed to all internal components and the APS is ready for operation. As soon as power is applied, the touch screen comes on and provides the ability to monitor selected groups and turbines in the MultiPac. In order to send commands to the MultiPac, however, the system must be enabled as described in step 3 below. 3.6.2. Group Selection In order to start the turbines in a MultiPac, you must first select a group using the drop-down list shown in Figure 8. Selecting a group selects the operating mode in which to start the turbines. Of course, only turbines configured for that operating mode should be in the group. Select group G1 to select the turbines to be started in Stand Alone mode. Select a group from G2 through G6 to select turbines to be started in Grid Connect mode according to the dispatch mode defined for the group. 3.6.3. System Enable/Password Entry To send a start command to turbines in a MultiPac, the system must be enabled. If you try to send commands, such as the Start command, from the APS before the system is enabled, a popup window opens on the touch screen with the message “APS Must Be Enabled.” To enable the system, first touch the green SYSTEM ENABLE icon (see Figure 7 for location). This activates the Confirm Yes/No popup window shown in Figure 14. Within 10 seconds, touch the YES button on the popup to enable entry of the user password. Figure 14.
