Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA User’s Manual: Advanced Power Server (APS) Model 145 User's Manual 3.5.2.1 Stand Alone Turbine Configuration A Capstone turbine that is configured to operate in Stand Alone mode is designated as a Dual Mode turbine. This means that it can operate in Grid Connect mode but also has battery packs that enable it to operate as a Stand Alone turbine, i.e., disconnected from the grid. Each turbine in the Stand Alone group must be enabled for Stand Alone operation as described in the applicable turbine user manual (Table 1). This operation must be done by a Capstone Authorized Service Provider. 3.5.2.2 Waking a Stand Alone Group Reducing battery draw to near zero during prolonged periods of non-use can extend the turbine battery charge significantly. This is called Sleep Mode. If the Stand Alone group is in sleep mode, touch the BATTERY START icon on the APS touch screen to wake up the batteries in the Stand Alone turbines, as described in Control Functions on page 19. 3.5.2.3 Starting a Stand Alone Group To start the Stand Alone turbines in the MultiPac, first select the Stand Alone group. Then enable the APS, and send a start command from the touch screen and/or by a remote start switch, if used. The APS can be configured to be remotely started using an external device such as the DMSC. To start the system in Stand Alone mode from the APS touch screen, refer to Start Up (paragraph 3.6). 3.5.2.4 Enabling Stand Alone Power Output To enable power output, first start the Stand Alone group, and wait for the engines to warm up and for the base battery state of charge to reach at least 60%. Then touch the green POWER ENABLE icon on the APS touch screen, as described in Control Functions on page 19. NOTE: The Enable command can be issued at any time. The system will transition to power output when battery voltage and state of charge are ready. A turbine in the MultiPac may have its Auto Enable Power is set to ON, in which case the turbine will automatically issue the Enable command when the system is ready to support the connected loads. 3.5.2.5 Stand Alone System Power Level The Stand Alone turbines in a MultiPac will produce (up to its capacity) whatever current is necessary to maintain the commanded voltage and frequency. The output power is determined by the connected load(s). 3.5.2.6 Disabling Stand Alone Power Output To disable power output, touch the red POWER DISABLE icon on the APS touch screen, as described in Control Functions on page 19. All power output will immediately cease, but the system will continue operating with fuel. 400026 Rev E (March 2014) Page 27 of 56 Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation either with respect to equipment previously sold or in the process of construction.PDF Image | Advanced Power Server (APS) Model 145 User's Manual
