Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA User’s Manual: Advanced Power Server (APS) Model 145 User's Manual 3.4.7. Power Setpoint The power setpoint mode is a manually configured maximum efficiency scheme that makes the on and off setting for each turbine in a group. In the power setpoint mode, each turbine in the group turns on and off at user-defined power levels. A numbering system that is independent of the actual turbines lets the APS bypass turbines that are not available for dispatch due to being offline for service. The power setpoint mode is only available for Grid Connect groups. 3.4.8. Manual Start and Power Override It is possible to manually start or stop, as well as manually set the power demand (Grid Connect only), for an individual turbine that is operating in a MultiPac. These commands can be done while still allowing the currently operating control mode to function, which can be helpful in troubleshooting facility issues. Make sure to not remove too many units from the APS when operating in an automated control mode, because this can result in unexpected performance of the APS and system as a whole. 3.4.9. MultiPac Redundancy In MultiPac operation, if an individual turbine fails (shuts down due to a fault) the remaining units will continue to operate. If the APS fails and communication is not possible, the turbines will continue to operate according to the last command they received from the APS. This continues until the APS reboots, at which point the turbines will stop and restart. 3.5. Operating Modes The following paragraphs describe the different operating modes of the turbine groups and how to issue the applicable commands for each mode. 3.5.1. Grid Connect Operation In Grid Connect operation, each turbine independently synchronizes to the grid, but the APS, as the MultiPac controller, provides a single interface point for Start, Stop, and Power Demand control. Also, signals from a power meter, external SCADA systems, etc., can be interfaced with the APS, which will communicate the data to the individual turbines in the MultiPac. In most applications, these commands are mostly or entirely automated, depending on the dispatch mode. The various dispatch modes are programmable using CRMS-APS, and must be done by a Capstone Authorized Service Provider. 3.5.1.1 Grid Connect Turbine Configuration A Capstone turbine that operates in Grid Connect mode may be configured to operate in Grid Connect mode exclusively, or it may be configured as a Dual Mode turbine, which means it can also operate in Stand Alone mode. A Grid Connect or Dual Mode turbine must be enabled for Grid Connect operation as described in the applicable turbine user manual (Table 1). This operation must be done by a Capstone Authorized Service Provider. 3.5.1.2 Starting a Grid Connect Group To start the turbines in the MultiPac configured for Grid Connect operation, first select a Grid Connect group (G2 through G6). Then enable the APS, and send a start command from the touch screen. Refer to Start Up (paragraph 3.6) for details. 400026 Rev E (March 2014) Page 25 of 56 Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation either with respect to equipment previously sold or in the process of construction.PDF Image | Advanced Power Server (APS) Model 145 User's Manual
