Troubleshooting With Fault Codes Diagnostic Messages and Codes The MicroTurbine software continuously monitors the state of various assemblies and subassemblies. In the event of an abnormal condition that may cause a malfunction or shutdown, the system displays a message with an accompanying code number. These messages are indicated on the Display Panel to help operator in the troubleshooting process. The abnormal conditions are called Incidents. Incidents An Incident occurs whenever a measured parameter falls outside prescribed limits. Incidents include (but are not limited to) low fuel pressure, utility interruptions, and utility over voltages. Depending on the parameter and the magnitude of its excursion, the Incident is classified as either a warning or a fault. • Warning incident - This is a condition which is outside normal operating parameters, but which does not require a system shutdown. • Fault incident - This is a condition under which the system is shut down to prevent possible damage or unsafe conditions. Incident Severity Levels When the system detects an incident, it may take one of several actions, depending on the incident severity level. Actions range from simply noting the occurrence and continuing to operate to immediate shutdown of the system. Depending upon the severity of the incident, the system may or may not attempt to restart, and may or may not allow a restart. Severity levels are graded from zero to 7, with zero being the lowest or least critical level, and 7 being the highest or most critical level. Refer to following paragraphs for severity level details. Severity Level 7 - This is the highest severity level. Faults of this severity level indicate that a disabling condition exists in the system. Most likely, the com- munications as well as other system functions are inoperable since communications and faults can- not be logged. The CPU is placed into an indefinite halt to minimize accidental actuation of valves, etc. All valves are closed, any motors are de-energized, and any contactors are opened. Note: Severity Level 7 is considered fatal (operation may cease). Severity Level 6 - Indicates a fault condition is present prohibiting the system from any form of operation. Power output is disabled. A “cool down” or “warm down” is not possible. The system disables all outputs, but is available for logging faults and communicating. A restart is possible if the fault condition clears or power path returns. Note: Severity Level 6 is considered fatal (operation may cease). Severity Level 5 - Faults of this severity level indicate that the primary power path for regulating the DPC has been lost. The system stops producing power. Execution of a “warm down” state is performed to lower the turbine operating temperature before shutting down. A re-start is possible if the power path returns. Faults are logged. Communications are available for trouble- shooting the system. Note: Severity Level 5 is considered fatal (operation may cease).
