Capstone Turbine Corporation  21211 Nordhoff Street  Chatsworth  CA 91311  USA Technical Reference: C200 Hazardous Location Fire Suppression System 4.1.8. Manual Lockout Valve A manual lockout valve is installed on the 1⁄2-inch main release line (see Figure 5). The manual lockout valve is a manually operated ball valve with an integrated, explosion proof position switch. Under normal operating conditions, the manual lockout valve must be in the open position; however, during microturbine maintenance periods, the valve must be placed in the closed position. In the event that the CO2 discharge process is initiated, a closed lockout valve will prevent CO2 from entering the microturbine enclosure (protecting maintenance personnel working within the enclosure) while still allowing all other alarm actions to proceed. Manual Lockout Valve Figure 5. Manual Lockout Valve 4.1.9. CO2 Louver & Pneumatic Pressure Trip A CO2 louver is installed on the interior ceiling of the microturbine enclosure (see Figure 6). In the event that the main release tankCO2 is discharged, the louver assembly located within the microturbine enclosure will immediately close to assist the CO2 in extinguishing the fire. The louver uses a spring-loaded design and relies on a pneumatic trip device to be held open. The louver is installed within the flow path of the enclosure exhaust, so a closed louver will assist with trapping released CO2 within the enclosure. The pneumatic trip for the louver is connected to a 1⁄4-inch stainless steel tube that is routed from the 1⁄2-inch main release line. A small stainless steel stem and guard are used to hold the louver in the open position. During CO2 discharge, the inlet of the pneumatic trip will exceed the minimum nominal operating pressure of 50 PSI (3.4 bar), causing the pneumatic trip to retract its retaining stem and releasing the louver to actuate into its closed position. 410089 Rev A (February 2013) Page 12 of 54 Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation either with respect to equipment previously sold or in the process of construction.
