Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Technical Reference: Advanced Power Server (APS) 6.7. Turbine Group Configuration CRMS-APS is used to assign turbines to functional groups, and to assign operational settings for each group. These settings are stored in configuration files that are accessed by the APS to determine what commands to send to each turbine in the group. A group is a virtual entity and does not represent how the APS is physically connected to turbines in a MultiPac, nor is it related to how turbines are physically grouped at a site. CRMS-APS has the ability to configure up to six groups of turbines for an APS or a C1000 series controller. This is a permanent structure, and no additional named groups can be defined, nor can any of these groups be deleted. The groups are arranged according to operating mode and power dispatch mode. Since Stand Alone operation has only one power dispatch mode, Group 1 is reserved for turbines that operate in Stand Alone mode. Turbines that operate in Grid Connect mode are assigned to Groups 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. There are five groups available for Grid Connect mode because of the flexibility required for the range of power dispatch modes when connected to a utility grid. A turbine that is not dual mode capable, i.e. grid connect only, cannot be in Group 1. However, a turbine that is dual mode capable, which will operate in Stand Alone and Grid Connect modes, will be assigned to Group 1 and also to a Grid Connect group in order to facilitate dual mode operation. Figure 42 provides an example of how CRMS-APS was used to configure the groups for the site installation shown in Figure 24. This site has six dual mode turbines, which are shown in Stand Alone Group 1. Since this site uses a DMSC for dual mode operation, the same turbines are also shown in Group 2. The Group 2 settings determine how the dual mode turbines function when in Grid Connect mode. The two ICHP turbines, also grid-connected, use the settings assigned to Group 3. The five turbines that perform electrical load following to supplement grid power use the settings assigned to Group 4. 410079 Rev.
