Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Capstone Gas Pack: Technical Reference Configuration Options The Gas Pack is available in two basic electrical versions: an AC version that uses power from the utility grid and a DC version that uses power from the MicroTurbine. Each of these versions has two assembly types: • To connect with a MicroTurbine with an internal gas pressure regulator • To connect with a MicroTurbine without an internal gas pressure regulator The MicroTurbine catalog number is the key to which type of Gas Pack is to be installed, as shown in Table 1. Table 1. Matching Gas Packs to MicroTurbines MicroTurbine Versions Gas Pack Part Numbers Model C65 “New York City” versions include a fuel gas pressure regulator inside the MicroTurbine package. The catalog number designation for the NYC version is an N in the second to last character, as: 65X– XXX–XXNX DC Version: Gas Pack Part Number: 522201-1xx AC Version: Gas Pack Part Number: 522202-1xx All other C60 and C65 catalog numbers require an external fuel gas pressure regulator be installed at the inlet to the package. DC Version: Gas Pack Part Number: 522108-1xx AC Version: Gas Pack Part Number: 522109-1xx The Gas Pack assemblies include a fuel outlet kit for connection to a single MicroTurbine. Fuel outlet kits included with Gas Pack assemblies 522108-1xx and 522109-1xx include a fuel gas pressure regulator and pressure gauge. The fuel outlet kits included with Gas Pack assemblies 522201-1xx and 522202-1xx for the New York City version MicroTurbines do not include a fuel pressure regulator, because a regulator is included inside the MicroTurbine package. In addition, Gas Pack assemblies 522201-1xx and 522202-1xx include a “skirt assembly” that covers the fuel outlet connection. A second MicroTurbine fuel outlet kit with gas pressure regulator and pressure gauge (part number 522071-1xx) is also offered as an option by Capstone and allows one Gas Pack to provide fuel for two MTs. Installers can provide their own high pressure fuel connections to a second MT; however, the second MT must receive a steady fuel inlet pressure between 75 and 80 psig. The installer must provide a suitable regulator and pressure gauge in their Gas Pack outlet plumbing to the second MicroTurbine. A second MT fuel outlet kit is not available for use with New York City version MicroTurbines (which have an internal gas pressure regulator), and it is not suggested that installers make their own connections for this unique application. Gas Pack inlet kits are also available as an option from Capstone that include a flame arrestor, shutoff valve, and inlet fuel strainer (see Figure 1).
